Takes Proactive Measures as COVID Cases Surge During Holiday Season

The Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) activated its early warning system in June 2022 to closely monitor COVID-19 cases, analyse trends, and recommend necessary measures to prevent a potential outbreak. Recently, QCESU Chief Dr. Rolando Cruz attributed the current surge in cases to holiday gatherings and parties, compounded by relaxed COVID restrictions, including the wearing of masks.
Dr. Cruz emphasised the historical trend of increased cases during holiday seasons and acknowledged the potential impact of chilly weather on people’s immunity. He urged Quezon City residents to remain vigilant, especially for COVID-like symptoms such as cough, colds, and fever.
As of December 7, Quezon City has recorded 186 active COVID-19 cases, prompting Mayor Joy Belmonte to address the public. Mayor Belmonte urged residents to implement basic precautionary measures, including the consistent wearing of masks in public and staying indoors when experiencing symptoms.
“These are basic precautionary measures that we have been doing for the past years. It is important that we continue implementing this for our safety, especially now that cases are rising,” Mayor Belmonte emphasised.
